Aes is in all ways an urban dwarf. He was born to a to the Maddam of a Midnight Harbor brothel who raised him amongst the patrons. Clients could always find young Aes at the iron table in the lobby playing with his toy soldiers while listening to the horrible updates about the war from townsfolk and soldiers on leave. The City of Midnight Harbor never saw any major battles during the Scism War, but towards the end of the conflict the city was taken over by clergy of Bane who tested their war spells and soldier “enhancements” on the unwilling local populace, including unbeknownce to him, himself.
Close to his 25th birthday Aes was out running errands for his mother in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods of the city, when two shadowy figures, including one with a jagged scar across his face, approached him suddenly. Before he could react one of them grabbed him, while the other jabbed at him with a needle. Blackness engulfed him. The next thing he remembered he was sitting slouched against the side of the Mermaid’s Kiss Tavern with an empty bottle in his hands and a splitting headache. Thinking he was coming off a rather nasty drinking binge he got to his feet, brushed himself off and headed back to the brothel.
Shortly after his blackout, Aes began to notice strange things happening around him. He would hear a brief snippet of what someone was thinking or cause a drunk patron trying to hit one of the girls to double over in intense pain with but a thought. While the flashes initially happened randomly, he slowly gained control over his newfound powers, and being a dwarf, which itself was an oddity in Midnight Harbor, Aes decided to turn his newfound abilities and his exotic nature into a living. Specifically, he performed odd jobs ranging from gladiator work to general “enforcement” for anyone who was able to offer him good money to use his abilities.
Loving the finer things in life, the only thing Aes likes more than a cold ale in the Hippogriff’s Wing Tavern is spending a night at the local casino. In fact, he’s worked up quite a debt with the local Bloodeye crime syndicate and has been dodging its assassins for months, recently joining a caravan as a guard to lay low for a while.
Aes is jovial and loves a good time. He HATES nature but will do anything if there’s the slightest chance of making a gold piece or two. He is relatively tall for a dwarf and keeps his hair and brown beard cut close. His handlebar moustace hangs over either side of his mouth and he has a propensity for wearing royal colors such as red and gold.
